C0-CONECTED (Community Conservation Eco-Tourism and Development)

Vision:
To create and support a network of organizations of the rural poor involved in, or wishing to be involved in, economically viable sustainable land-use management practices.
Activities:
- Facilitation of rural CBO exchange workshops and visits
- Creation and support of a network of rural poor communities in SA
- Partnership Development
- Land tenure and restitutions
- Capacity building
- Legal Support
Goals:
• Establishment of 3 regional rural community based organisation networks
• Identification and support of economically viable land-use management projects such as eco-tourism, agriculture, and animal husbandry
Coconected has been involved in several interesting initiatives in 2006. These include:
- Conducting an enumeration and linking up villages to be affected – negatively or positively – by the N2 toll road between East London and Durban – with special links to similar experiences in the Amazon, Brasil;
- Support to Mzamba community (Eastern Cape) in terms of income generation activities and land restitution issues;
- Setting up horse trails and hiking routes along the Wild Coasy;
- Initiating a community-based anti-poaching strategy in Zimbabwe and Malawi.
